Dear Family
First of all I want to thank you for reading my letter and spending time on getting to know me better. In the following lines I want to introduce myself and tell you something about my family, hobbies, interests and why I want to be an exchange student.
My name is Sonja Roth, I am 15 years old and I’m coming from Hemberg, Switzerland. At the moment, I’m studying my 9th schoolyear and I want to come to your country as an exchange student, when I have finished it.
I want to be an exchange student to learn something about other cultures, other life styles and another language. I want to experience the school, everyday life, and usages of an other country. I also want to make friends all over the world and people know more about my country. I would like to travel a lot and see a big part of your country.
Now I want to tell you something more about me.
I think my friend would describe me as a very open and cheerful person. I often laugh and like to be with people. I am interested in many things, for example in sports, especially soccer, and music. I think I am very musical, I play the accordeon and the piano and I also like to listen or dance to music. Once a week I practice with my choir cause I really love to sing.
I am very communicative, I like to talk in other languages and about everything. I am also very open to learn or try new things. I am very interested in other countries so I like to learn something more about them, for example their capitals, specialities or whatever and the atlas is one of my favourite books.
Some of my weaken are that I am a little chaot and I’m not very ambitious so I give not always my best, if I have to do something I don’t like to.
On my free time I like to go to the city for shopping, to the cinemy, to travel in my country, or just be with my friends. In the summer I like to go to swimming in a lake near my house or hike in the mountains cause the nature here is very nice. In wintern we have a lot of snow so I often go snowboarding or go sledding.If the weather is not so good, I like to read, that’s one of my favourite hobbies. I think I am very musical, I play the accordeon and the piano and I also like to listen or dance to music. Once a week I practice with my choir cause I really love to sing.
On weekends I normally spend time with my family. We make trips to the mountains or visit our grandparents, aunts, uncles or friends of my family.
I like to go to school and I am a good student. My favoruite subjects are languages (english, french, spanish) because I think they are very important for my future and also for travelling and also social studies because I am very interested in other countries and cultures. I’m sure that the school in your country is diferent but I am really looking forward to experience the school.
After the school I want to work as a flight attendant, that’s one of my biggest dreams, and if that is not possible, I want to study something that has to be with languages, travelling or journalism. I also want to travel a lot and live abroad for some years.
At school and in my free time I like to be with my friends. I think that for my friends, I am a person with who they can have a lot of fun but also talk about everything.
In my family we are six members. My dad is 45 and my mom is 40 years old. I have two sisters who are 16 and 10 years old and a brother who is 12. I have a very good relation with my parents, especially with my mom. Se is a very nice person and I can tlak with her about everything. My mom doesn’t work anymore, she is always at home and there for us. My dad is a farmer and we have a farm with cows, a dog and a cat. Ma dad is also a very interested person. He undertakes a lot with his family and shows us a lot of switzerland. With my parents I like to discuss important and current thungs and I like to get looked like an adult person. With my brothers and sisters I fight sometimes but we also can laugh and have fun together.
I think that in my family I have a bit the role af the big sister, cause my big sister is not at home this year. I take care that my little brother and sister behave themselves and sometimes I command about them. Sometimes I am maybe a bit too hard I think that’s also one of my weaknesses.
The responsibilities I have in my house are not too much, I have to clean my room and help my mother in the kitchen. Sometimes I also have to help on our farm but that’s not very often.
My country, Switzerland, is very nice. We have many mountains and hills, but also nice lakes and beautiful cities. Switzerland is very small but we have many different cultures in our country. There are 4 official languages, German, French, Italian and Rhateo-Romanic, and every province has her own dialect.
Our chocolate and our cheese are very famous and they are really very good. You have to try it, then you will love it!
Me and my family live on a farm in Hemberg, a small village in the east of Switzerland. Hemberg is very nice but also very small, we are about 100 inhabitants, so everyone knows everyone.
I am really looking forward to meet you, to discover your city and your country and to learn your language. I am sure that we will have a great time together!
