Dear host family!
First of all I want to thank you that you give me the chance to spend 4 months in Canada at your house. So that you will know me better I will tell you something about me, my family and my live.
My name is Kathrin *** and I am nearly 16 years old. My Birthday is at the 29th of April so it is not far away. My haircolor is blond and my eyes are green.
I’m living in Essen, this is a city in the Ruhr Area in North Rhine-Westphalia, which is in the West of Germany. Essen is a big city its population is about 583,000 people. There I live together with my grandparents in their house, because my mother died 2 years ago and so they let me live at their house.
My older brother Daniel, who is now 22 is still living at my fathers house. He is an HÖRGERÄTEAKKUSTIKER and I see him often. When I lived together with my parents we have had a dog too. His name was Oskar but I don’t see him quite a while now.
My uncel and my aunt are often visitors in our house, together with my litte cousins Aneta and Sylwia. We often eat together and have much fun together.
They have a little dog, Pitu and I like playing with him. I often go on holidays together with them.
At the moment I am student of a 10th grade at a Gymnasium. My favourit subject in school is History, because we have it got in English and I’m really interesting in historical things.
The school in Germany is really different like the school in Canada I think. We have 11 subjects per week. And we can’t really choose wat we want to have. Only in grade 11 we have the choice. We did it this week and it was really difficult. I decided to continue my bilingual class. So I have got two subjects in English, which I also had the years before.
In my free time I often meet with my friends. Particulary with Rebecca, she is my best friend and with her I have got very much fun. I often spend the night at her home.
Her family is like a second family for me and I like them all very much.
Together we go to the Messdiener. This is an organisation from our church. We meet once a week and play games or practice for the church services. But at my group are oly two other boys, but they are two of my friends and so we often only sit there and talk.
Another thing which I really like is soccer. I like to watch it in TV and my favourit soccer club is the FC Bayern Munich from the south of Germany. I also play soccer in a club. We started practice a year ago so we are not so well but we work. Sometimes the boys laugh about us but that doesn’t matter, because they only play better, because they started it earlyer.
I also like reading. But at the moment I have not so much time for it. But when I have the time I like Fantasy books the most. Particulary the Harry Potter books. But I am also interesting in historical books. Sometimes when we are at holidays I read over 10 books or so.
Yes holidays are also very good. Every year we went skiing. We, that are my uncel, my aunt and my two little cousins. I go skiing since I am 4 or 5 years old and I like it very much. It is really cool to be in the mountains and all the snow everywhere.
My family likes traveling around the world. My grandparents visited very much countries in the world and I was also in some countries like the USA, South Africa, Italy, Scotland and also one day in Canada while we visited the Niagara Falls.
Since 10 years I am a member of the so called caroll singers. I don’t know if you know this. The caroll singers march through the streets and sing on the frontdoors of the houses for getting money for poor children. It is a really big fun and it is a good thing to help poor children.
My friends and my family picture me as a helpfull, creative, humorous, sociable,
adaptable, friendly and cosmopolitan person. My best friend Rebecca told me quite a while ago that I am also adventurous, amusing and that I am good in convincing other people.
At the moment I am not really sure what I want to become in the future. A few months ago I wanted to become an architect but then I made a practical course and I changed my mind. Right now I first of all want to make my A-levels and then I want to study at an university perhaps tourism or so.
I think it would be a great gain for both sides if you take me as an exchange student. I have the chance to learn something about your country and your culture. And you have the chance to learn something about Germany.
I would be very happy if you would choose me for being the exchange student in your family. I’m very excited to meet you, the different country and the different culture.
