Student Letter

Guten Abend, liebe Community. (:

Dear host family,

First of all, I would like to express, that I am thankful for reading my letter and give me the chance to stay in the USA for about one year.

My name is XXX and I am currently 15 years old. I live in XXX, a small village in the middle of Germany. It is a nice place to grow up, there just live around 800 people and it’s a safe and idyllic place. Here I live with my mom, dad, cat (Kitty) and my dog (Abby). I am a person who loves animals, so I can handle well with them. With my parents I get on well and I have a great big family (21 relatives) here in Germany. Most of my family members live nearby so we have a good connection and we always stick together.

In my free time I like to meet my friends, play the guitar, spend time with my family or read books (I love the Hush, Hush series). I also enjoy sports very much. I am playing soccer for 3 years in the local soccer club of my village. With my team I have two wins of season and it’s really fun to play in this team, which consists just of girls from the age of 11 to 19. But the age is no problem, we all get on well and we have a good team spirit what I admire.
Since I am 3 years I am a member in a marching band, because my parents lead it. With 8 years I began to play the drum, so I grew up with music. But I don’t hear that kind of music in my free time. I like rock music and my favorite band is ‚Conditions‘. Also I play the guitar for 1 year, which I have taught myself.

Currently, I am in grade 10 of a secondary school and in 2013 I will graduate. My class is great and we all understand well. Also most of my teachers are all right. So I like going to school because there are nearly all of my friends.
At my school I have led an own extracurricular activity with some of my friends where we helped the younger students with their homework and it was fun because I enjoyed helping. In grade 9 I also helped with a friend of mine in the primary school of my village. There we practiced reading with some children from second and third grade. Sometimes it was very stressful, because the little kids are very active and playful but that’s why it was fun and a little challenge.

I like trying new things that also includes food so I am not picky. I enjoy making new experiences which is one of the reasons, why I decided to go to the USA for 10 months. I am kind and mostly a cheerfulness person. Also I am helpful and I don’t mind helping by the household chores. My friends describe me as a funny, reliable and likable person. But I also have faults too. For the beginning I am a little bit shy with new people but when I get to know about the people I am an easygoing person. Another fault is, that I am a bit untidy with my clothes, so sometimes they are laying all around my room. But I try to improve myself.

To go to the USA has always been my dream, because I admire the culture and the language. I have always wanted to experience the ‚American way of life‘ and now I get my chance.

I hope I will see you soon.
Warm regards,

XXX
