Rohfassung meines Host Family letters

Hi!
ich habe grade eben meinen host family letter fertig gestellt, und wollte mal fragen, ob mir nicht vielleicht einer von euch mal helfen könnte ihn zu korrigieren.
Für jede Art von hilfe bin ich sehr dankbar.

Dear future host family

At first I want to thank you for taking time for me and my letter.
I realy approchiate and venerate your will to integrate a complete stranger to
your family. Exchanging is not just adventure and challenge to us (the students),
it also means a big thing to you, I think.
Wheter you pick me, or not, it is a great sign of hospitality, cultural intresst and courage,
to offer your domestic home, in order to be a guest family.
If everyone would follow your feature, world would be more peaceful at all.

My Name is Ríchard Krieg, and I am going to have a student exchange year in New Zealand.
Aotearcoa, the country of the long white clouds, as it is called by the Maori, has to be such
a beautiful country. And I am very proud, for being a part of it for one year.
Hopefully it is going to be a great year. Perhaps the best year of my life, and perhaps you
will be a part of it. Well, I hope you will.

In the following lines I would like to introduce my self to you, in a kind of self-definition,
so that you can get an idea of me, to decide wheter I am corresponding to your family or not.

I was born on … in the wonderful city of …, which is famous for
its high density of art and culture, as its gorgeus theatre is known all around the world.
Ten miles away from… my small lovely village … is situated.
… is the Place where I grew up, went to Kindergarten and primary school and where I live.
A quite beautiful single family sized house is what my father, my dog Bello, my rabbit Jason
and I may call home.

After primary school,
I decided to continue my schooling with the highest possible education
at (name of my gymnasium), where I currently attend the 10th grade.
The subjects i am most keen about are music, PE, history, economics and biology.
As Meiningen is 10 miles removed from my home,
I am used to ride more than one hour a day by bus, but I adapted to it.

When school has finished, i like to do sports.
Sport means much to me, because I think it is a good way to relax after a stressful day at school.
Is it teamsport, Wintersport, Watersport, Martial Arts, or
some other sport, only thing that is signigicant- it has to be fun.
The kinds of Sport I prefer are footbal (soccer), skiing, boxing and jogging,
but I have an open mind about every kind of sport,
and I always like to try out some new things.
Please do not be afraid, by the time you read „boxing“.
It just means a sport to me, and I think boxing is all about fun, fitness and
fair competition. I am no one to beat others, as I can not stand intolerance and hate.
howsoever, I think it is sad to say, that there is to much unjustified predjudice on Boxers and
other martial artists.

Beside Sports, Music is my strongest Passion.
The first instrument I had studied was a traditional german brass instrument, at the age of 5,
to it came another brass instrument, and at least the bassguitar, which I currently train on.
I think, after all that training, I am a quite good musician, and also my music school seems to share
this opinion, because they wanted me to play in a youth musical with some other joung musicians from
my music school to occur at our theatre this mai.
The last months, I realy enjoyed our tryouts so that I can definitly see my self in a band, with
some other joung musicians, are them germans, Kiwis or wherefrom soever.
If I got the chance, I would definetly, join an intercultural band, because I think
this experience would realy enrich my life, and it would be great fun, above all.

between whiles, I do some little jobs, to advance my weekly pocket money.
It means much to me, to stand on my own feed step by step, even if I can just earn a few bugs.
I have done some jobs, jet as waiter in a local restaurant, as unskilled worker at a cement factory,
as a temporary help in an architecture office, and as odd-job man at my fathers business.
Be it to carve some stones, to sweep the yard, or to be my fathers odd hand betimes; I was used to do
some light work, since I was about 10 years.

Also meeting friends, and just relax and watch Tv is part of my freetime, but I try not to sit in front
of the screens whole day, I do rather like to go out, do sports or take a walk with the dog,
if weather does not break it.

Due to the fact that
my father is a very good cook, I was thought cooking since my earliest days.
From then on cooking, even so baking has grapped my attention, in such a way that
I can cook f.e. traditional german dishes, but on the other hand also some international
dinings on my own,
who are most considered by frieds and family with the rating yummy.

Healthy food is essential to me, whereas I want to stay in shape for sports, but sometimes
I can stand a little self made chocalate cake or some nuddles with cheese sauce.
Summarizing it is to say, that our family basically eats anything: meat, fish,
vegetables, fruit, potatoes, noodles, rice, dairy products, sweets and anything else.

My family

My father … is 43 years old, and after his Train for the job stonecarver, he has
studied engineer in …, so much that he may call himself „qualified engineer“.
Today he manages his own Business, with circa 10 employees, together with his father (my grandfather).
My Mother, …, is 40 years old and works as a teacher at primary school reurieth.
As my parents are divorced, I decided to live with my father, 3 years ago,
beacause I have a closer relation to him ,
though my 2 years younger sister has choosen to life with my mum.
Nevertheless I love my sister, though we struggle sometimes, as any siblings do, and I think it is a great pity,
that we can not grow up together furthermore. Anyhow we do still meet at school, and at the weekends,
so that we are still in connection. A wish that my parents can not fulfil anymore, is the wish after
a big brother. I would realy like to have one, but well, i mean this is not possible anymore.

My family has to be mentioned as a musical family.
My grandfather, my mother, my sister, my two cousins my uncle and me play particulary 3 instruments and more,
so much that our small „family band“ is used to occur on some little birthday parties, where we play
a few serenades.

See that I have unfortunately no closer relationship to my mother,
the relation to my grandparents (paternal) is very important to me.
I realy apprechiate, that my grandmother cooks a warm lunch or brews me a

coffee when I come home from school. Moreover my grandparents help me always,
however they can, in such a way that I can confide in them, whatever the
Problem is.

allthough my friends are a big support to me.
„friends are like stars: you do not see them always, but they are always there.“
This is a nice saying, but anyhow it is true.
Above all, friendship means fun to me. Going out at night,
have a little party, or just be up to scrath is always fun with my friends, nonetheless
I think they are still there, to solace me, or to bring me the homework, if neccesary.

On my own interesst, I decided to have a visit abroad, alone in Summerbreak 2007.
My destination was London, where I lived with a host family.
The host family was not picked quite well, because I had to life with more than
8 international students and 2 host sisters in a small domicile.
That ment, that I had to share my small room with 3 students on some days.
During thi stay, I graduated an english course and a football course 2 weeks long.

I know, that I have to be very grateful to my family, for having the privelege to
travel in the way I did in my young days, as I had the chance to see for exampel
London, Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Lisabonn, Prague and hereafter NZ, what does realy
expand my horizon.
I hope I can make this for my children in the same way, at that time.

On this Journey, I came to know that the advantage, speaking another language, means that
you can talk with the people.
In this relation, the english language has got a key role, as more than 300 miion people speak
english as their mothertongue and all the others try to learn it.
Talking to people means to get to know them, and as
I came to know so much different people from different countries,
I realized, that we all have some things in common.
There are many simple hopes, dreams and fears, that concern on all men,
what has to mean a connection between all of us.
I think men are linked by their similaritites, what does not mean, that it differences are bad.
Differences on the other hand make social life interessting.

The reasons, i had to pick New Zealand came to my mind early.
New Zealands nature is indescribable amazing,It is stated, that the kiwis are easy going, as I am,
and NZs school level seems to be realy high.
I think NZ and I will fit well, by the time I become a Kiwi.

My family and friends consider me an outgoing, vivid, kind and easy going guy, who has the ability
to bear the challenge of an exchange year.
I personally hope, that I can find a friendly host family and many good friends to support me in
finding my way during my exchange year and to learn the language properly. If so,
I will not have any problems with homesickness at all.
After and during my exchange year, I want to try harder at school still more, in order to get the
best possible marks at examinations. I definitly want to go to university,
however, I am not yet entirely sure whcih subject it is going to be, becaus I am interessted in a lot.
May it be business and economics, biotechnology, music, food chemist or something else.

I am looking forward to get to know you and New Zealand, as I hope we will share a great time together

Yours sincerely
Richard Krieg
