Hey
Ich war gerade dabei meinen host family letter / student letter zu schreiben, und da der ja seeehr wichtig ist, würde ich mich sehr freuen wenn ihr ihn mal durchlest und mir eure Meinung darüber da lasst…
also, danke schon mal im voraus
Dear host family!
First of all I want to thank you for taking your time to read my letter. I’m grateful that you want to take an exchange student for one year and show him or her your way of life. I really hope that I am the lucky one who you choose to be your exchange student.
My name is Miriam, but you can call me Miri. I am a 16 year old girl and I live in the north of Germany. Together with my Mum, my Dad and my dog Wuffi (he’s a very cute sheltie) I live in a nice house. I also have two fantastic sisters, but they’re 27 and 30, so they have already moved out. My mum is working at a beautician, my dad is an architect. My 30 year old sister is called Saskia. She is a teacher, teaching English and French. My 27 year old sister is called Julia, she works as a nurse.
At my school here in Germany, I visit year 10 at the moment. I really like my school, and I think it is not that often that a student says “I really like going to school”, so I am very lucky with it.
I will reach my A-Levels in 2019, because we have got 13 years of school and after my year abroad I’ll visit year 11 not 12, that’s how my school wants it.
My favourite subjects are Biology and Drama. I am very interested in topics like genetics, and I love acting, so that’s why these subjects are my favourite ones.
Every Tuesday I work as a dental assistant after school. About one year ago, I did a work experience at that dentist and after it she asked me to work there once a week. So I said yes, that’s a good way to earn some pocket money. J
After my graduation I’d like to study medicine and than find a profession which is also about biology. That would be great.
Once a week I go to a Hip-Hop dance group with my best friend, who is called Randi.
I am not the perfect dancer, I’m kind of unsporty, but it’s a lot of fun to meet friends and dance our choreographies with them. I started dancing almost two years ago.
Another hobby of me is writing. I love to build stories in my head and write them down. It’s such a great feeling when people tell me that I’ve made them smile or light up their day with it, that makes me happy.
I also really like to draw. I get better every time I do it, and to see yourself improving at doing something you like is always a great thing, I think.
If my friends should describe me, they’d say I am a very reliable person. I’m good at listening to their problems and help solving them. They’d also tell you that you can have lots of fun with me. I like to laugh and experience new, exiting things.
I also like to volunteer for tasks at school. If there is an event planned, I love to help with the preparations.
My weakness is definitely sports. I don’t know why- there are just so many things which I like more than running after a ball or anything like that.
If there are football games (or any other games people visit in the USA) where you go to, of course I’d be happy to come with you and cheer on the team you (or we?) are for. That would be a lot of fun! It’s just that I don’t like doing lots of sports by myself.
There are a lot of reasons why I am so happy and excited about my year abroad.
I really like the people in the USA. They are so friendly! I’ve been in Florida before and everyone was just so helpful and kind. But I’ve just been in the USA as a tourist, and to live there and go to school is probably really different than just chilling at the pool.
It also is probably the most exciting thing I’ve planned in my life yet. One year in another country, what could be more exciting?! I also really look forward to visit an American High School and to get to know that American school spirit which I just know from movies. I’ll meet so many new people, new friends, from so far away. That’s so great!
A year abroad is just something I will remember for my whole life. I will earn experiences I probably cannot think of yet, and I am just so happy to have this incredible chance.
Here in Germany I don’t attend church. But I’ve heard that it is completely different in the USA and a big part of many people’s lives there. So if you go to church, of course, I’d be happy if you’d take me with you and show me what it is like, maybe it will be something I like a lot!
I hope for a lovely host family who will show me their way of life and who will treat me like a real part of their family.
I’d love to get to know your culture and discover a new lifestyle.
I’d be very, very happy about having host siblings. Just as I told you, my siblings have already moved out. So it would be amazing to have host siblings living at the same place… I love to imagine that. But of course, the most important thing for me is that you want to treat me like a family member, show me your life and let me be a part of it.
So if you feel concerned… I hope that you choose me! J
Yours very excited and hopefully future exchange student Miri
