Dear Host family,
First of all I want to say thank you that you will give me the opportunity to become an exchange student and to take part in your daily life for a couple of month. I’ve never been in America before but it was always my greatest dream and you will make it come true. I’m looking forward to spending a year abroad. To show you that I’m the right student for you , I’ll tell you a little bit about me and my daily life:
Well, my name is Kristin Isabel but everybody call me Krissy. I‘m a little girl with brown hair and green eyes. I live with my family in a big city , called Duisburg with 500.000 inhabitants in the west of Germany: My mother (50) works as maths teacher and my father (53) is a doctor and he owns a praxis. We all get very good along with each other. With my brother (22) I can talk about everything and we laugh a lot, even so we have some disagreements we play cards or watch movies together. When I was young my grandfather and I had a lot of fun and my parents are always there when I need them. I have two rabbits which live in the garden. Their names are Paulchen and Panther. Both are black with a white nose and they are quiet sweet. So I like spending time with my family and my pets.
My school is called „Reinhard-und-Max-Mannesmann Gymnasium“ and now I’m in the 9th grade. I think the German school system is quiet different to the American one: School starts at 8 a.m. and usually ends at 1.20 p.m. , except Monday when I’ve 9 lessons not 6. One lesson takes 45 minutes and there are two breaks of ca. 20 minutes. In Germany you can hardly choose your courses only your second and third language. I chose French and Spanish. I like languages so French Spanish and English are my favourite subjects. I’m bilingual that means I learn history and geography in English. I like sports in school because in my free time I also do a lot of sport activities: Two times a week I play soccer in a club and I really like my team. My position is the upper midfield so I can prepare goals and sometimes I score a goal on my own. Most of all we won our matches and last season we won the championship. So I also watch matches on TV or go into the stadium to see my favourite local team MSV DUISBURG. One time a week I play tennis and I love to dance. I dance hip hop style in a group and last month we had our first show. I don’t dance only in a group but also with a partner. In three weeks I have the end of term dance and I’m very excited. Sometimes I go to a fitness center with my friends to train my endurance. First of all I like sport in a team because I’m a team player but I’m inspirated of nearly all kind of sport. Also skiing, skating, snowboarding and riding a bike are things I really like. Apart from that I play acoustic guitar and I like to sing. I also read many books and I love to listen to Alternative music. My favourite bands are ‚Nevershoutnever‘, ‚Dramarama‘ and ‚The Fray‘. When I hear music I forget everything around me and I feel good. I enjoy looking romantic movies or films which base on a true story. My favourite films are ,My sister‘s keeper‘ and ‚Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo`. Traveling is something I like , too. I’m always fascinated of the many different cultures and I want to see the whole world. You see every time new sights , eat new things and meet different people. I were in many different countries of Europe like Spain, Italy and France. This is one of the reasons why I will become a reporter or a journalist because I want to travel in my job and write down what I’ll see on my journey. But for all the many activities I have still enough time for my friends. My circle of friends is quiet big and so I often meet new people. It’s really great because sometimes develop close friendships. I also have some people I call best friends , of course like my best friends Julia and Carla. Carla and I know ourselves already since we were three years old. Juli and I got to know each other in the primary school. Since several years we do everything together in our free time. When I’m thinking about them living their normal live in Germany and I’m sitting in America to experience the most exciting year of my life , is a little bit strange. My parents work hard till the evening so I do a lot with my friends and many different people I like: In the summer we swim in the lake, barbecue in the garden, go on holiday together with a group or play football on the Rhine promenade. In the winter we often go to the cinema , drink a hot chocolate and watch DVD‘s together. My friends are with my family the most important thing in my life because I can talk about everything with them , we can laugh or cry together and they are always there for me. My friends describe me as a open-minded, communicative and self-confident person. They see me as a girl who has fun in her life, has a great since of humor and who see most of the things positive. Because sometimes I’m a little bit clumsy they often laugh. These are many reasons why I’ll miss them a lot but I think when they are true friends they will be also my friends when I’ll be back in Germany.
Since I’m a really young girl I have the dream to fly to America. With only 6 years I wrote in the albums of my friends my biggest dream: To fly with an airplane into the United states. But I don‘t know why it was already my biggest dream in the past. I had the idea to make an exchange to the USA when my cousin told me on the christmas day about her exchange to California. But before I also dreamed about living the ‚American way of life‘ , going to a real American high school, climbing on the statue of liberty, being a cheerleader or eating together with friends in the cafeteria. But I don‘t think about going one year abroad. Soon after my cousine departed I surfed in the internet and started collecting some information about organisations, prices, their achievements and the Land of opportunity. So the dream to go their grew up. When I see the pictures on TV I like to see all these things in reality but mainly to experience things which I can‘t feel only out of the story‘s my cousine told: The culture of the Americans, food, sport, high school, the mindset of the people to life, to foreigners and to new things. I like to find new friends, make new relationships which are not only in this year but also after. I want to be in the middle of this new culture and not only on a biweekly trip where I have to see as much as possible. Moreover I wanna get good command of English and I like to see more from the world. Till now I‘ve never been outside of Europe but I want to start early to see the whole world. There are so many reason why I like to go one year abroad and I hope you will make it possible.
See you soon!
Yours , Krissy J
