Hostfamily letter YFU Thailand

Hallo
Ich fahr nächstes Jahr nach Thailand und habs jetzt endlich geschafft den Gastfamilienbrief zu schreiben.
Vielleicht hat ja jemand Lust den zu lesen und zu verbessern oder Vorschläge zu machen.

Dear Hostfamily
At first I want to thank you for reading my letter and making the decision to host a foreign student. I would really be happy to get to know you as my hostfamily.
My name is Svenja, I am 16 years old and my dream is to become an exchange student in Thailand since I first read about going to Asia. I want to learn more about the fascinating Thai culture, that could not be more different to the german; I want to be able to speak and write Thai fluently and get to know the everyday life.

Many people, who do not know me, think of me as a shy person, but as soon as they talk to me for longer they are confused by me talking so much. I asked some good friends of mine how to describe me and nearly all of them said: clever, creative, kind, helpful, spontaneously, humorous and a very good friend. My parents think so, too. Only my brother told me to write „I am crazy“…
Actually, my family is one of the two things I can not imagine living without. It consists of my father Martin (45), my mother Martina (39), my brother Cedric (12), my cat Heidi and me. I have got good relationships to all of them. We live in the center of a 56.000-inhabitant-town in the north-west of Germany. Although my parents work a lot, I spend a lot of time with my family and we all try to do as much as possible together. Therefore I try to help them at home by doing different household chores, for example washing clothes.
The other thing is my friends. My two best friends and I do nearly everything together. I am at school with them, we went on holidays together for 4 times and spend almost every weekend together.
In my circle of friends we are around 20 people, half girls, half boys. We meet mostly on weekends and go, for example, to cafés, concerts, the dancing school, the cinema, the bowling-center or just sit together and talk, cook, watch movies or play games at someone’s home.
As you may have seen from this my hobbies are ballroom dancing, going to concerts, spending time with my friends, taking photos, reading and listening to music. So, although I do not play any instrument, music plays a big role in my life, especially Rock, Indie, Electro and sometimes Hip-Hop. My favourite bands and musicians are Oasis, Paolo Nutini, Mando Diao, Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, Babyshambles and some german bands. I also help younger students by doing there homework and learning for school, and I do babysitting for some money in my free time.
Different to a lot of other opinions, I enjoy going to school. I think it is a privilege that should be used as good as possible. I attend class 10 at a grammar school and my favourite subjects are Geography, Spanish and English because I think it is very important to know what is going on in the world and by speaking many languages well you are able to talk to almost everyone all over the world.
After leaving school I would like to go to South America to help street urchins or as a teacher for younger students. Then I want to go to university and study either Journalism or Tourism-management.
The reason why I want to become an exchange student is, as I already said, my fascination for Thailand, but I also want to become more independent, get new experiences and „see the world“.

I am looking forward to meet you!

That’s it

LG Svenja
