host family letter ok so?

Dear host family!

Thank you for reading my letter and for being interested in me.
In the following lines, I want to present myself to you, tell you something about my family, my hobbies and interests, my reasons for choosing to be an aupair and my experiences with children. I hope I can make your decision easier with this letter so that you can consider me as your future aupair.

My name is ## and I’m 19 years old. I was born ## in Hanover, Germany.
I’ve got two elder sisters, ## (## years) and ## (## years), who has two daughters aged 16 and 13 who are very important to me.
At the moment, I live in ##, a suburb of ## in North Rhine-Westphalia.
My parents and my sisters were born in Italian and moved to Germany about 25 years ago.
Since I was born here, I can very barely speak Italian and also see myself rather as a German than an Italian.
My parents, ## (## years) and ## (## years) are self-employed. Until last year, they’ve always had an ice cream parlor where I often helped out.
Then they decided to search for something new because it was too stressful and exhausting for them at their age, and now they have some kind of a little fast food restaurant where they sell french fries and chicken, but also homemade cakes and stew.

I live with them and our two cats, Sena and Puschel, in an apartment in ## since March of the last year which my mother has furnished very lovingly.

We actually have a very good relationship and can talk to each other about many things, and what I appreciate the most is the fact that we can really trust each other. My parents give me much space, but they can do that because they know I would never do something wrong or silly. In return for that, I simply don’t disappoint them which is actually not difficult because I’m a very calm person and for example don’t like going to the disco.

In my free time I read a lot, usually fantasy, for example Terry Pratchett or Dennis L. McKiernan, but also historical books.
What I also like is surfing the internet and doing something with my friends.
Three times a week, I’m doing kickboxing which I’ve been doing for about three years now.
I’m not a very sportive person, but I can’t be sitting around calmly and learn all the time without the possibility to compensate this.
Besides, I’m dancing standard dance once a week. I’ve done this for two years, but quit three years ago, and now I restarted in another association.
Furthermore, I’ve been in the English Drama Group of my school for six years now.
Last year we performed the musical ‘Hair ‘which was very successful, and now we are practicing ‘Jack the Ripper – Monster of Whitechapel’.

I take care of not eating too much fat because I’m trying to lose a bit weight and eat healthy.
Besides, I eat meat very rarely and I don’t like steaks or something like that very much. You could see me as a half vegetarian.

I attend the High School in ## and will graduate in June.
I specialized in English and Pedagogics which also are my favorite subjects, together with Mathematics and Spanish.
After school, I want to study and become a teacher for High Schools in English and Mathematics or Spanish.

I decided to be an aupair already a long time ago when a friend of me showed me a brochure. Especially the ‘EduCare Program’ fits my needs best because it combines the two areas which I want to gain experience in the most;
On the one hand, I can improve my language and study different fields and see if I can handle it.
On the other hand, I can experience ‘the American way of life’ firsthand living in an American family and being seen as a new family member.
I will take care of the children, play with them, help them and be like a big sister to them.
I will show that I can be self-confident and self-dependent and that I have enough stamina to handle difficult situations.

I’d like to tell you something about my childcare experience now.
I gained the most experience in a family which is friends to my family.
They’ve got two sons, ## (## years) and ## (## years).
I’ve been caring for both of them for about four years now during which I’ve been tutoring ## in English (and sometimes Mathematics) two times a week and have babysat ##
several times. When I took care of him, I played with him with his lego bricks, drew something with him or went feed ducks in a pond near his home. When I had to take care of him in the evening (which I had to do most of the times), we also ate dinner together and I brought him to bed. Fortunately, this has never been a big problem, I just read a little story to him or let him hear an audio book and then he fell asleep very fast.
Of course his brother is now old enough to take care of him by himself, but sometimes when he is on vacation or spends the night with a friend, I babysit ## again.

Tutoring children is the activity I performed the most.
I tutored a 13-year-old girl in Mathematics once a week for about three months, but her mother said it was too stressful for her to drive her daughter back and forth, and since I was only 17 years old and not allowed to drive alone, we canceled it.

Besides, I had a 9-year-old boy who needed help in mathematics. I tutored him for four months once a week, but then his single mother lost his job and couldn’t afford it anymore.

Then I had a 14-year-old girl, whom I helped in French once a week for about five months, but she didn’t call back after the summer holidays and so we didn’t continue with that.

At the moment, I still tutor ##, but now only once a week, and I have got to know another girl which I started to tutor three weeks ago. Since I’m about to graduate, I cannot tutor as often as I used to do.

Furthermore, I was a Camp Counselor in a summer camp from the YMCA which took one week. There were about 25 children at the age of 10 to 14 and we camped on the ground of an elementary school. I helped in the kitchen, watched the children play on the playground and took part in our little ‘shows’ where we for example showed some funny scenes.

I’ve decided to make a practical training in a kindergarten in April for two weeks to make up experience with younger children even if I will only care for elder children. I’ve already done a practical training in a kindergarten, but that was 5 years ago and took only one week.

I like spending time with children and teaching them things because they are so enthusiastic and interested. They are honest and don’t act false and even if they can be a real challenge they can bring so much joy in your life with their sometimes funny ideas and when they let you feel that they love you.

I think I am able to be an aupair because I’m friendly and reliable. I like kids and I’m really looking forward to becoming a part of your family in order to experience other cultures and lifestyles, develop myself further and building up a real, close relationship to your children.
In the first time, I will maybe appear a bit shy, but if I’ve adapted to the new circumstances and have settled in a bit, then I will unbend and become livelier.

I hope this letter was useful for you to get a first idea of who I am and to decide if I fit to your family. I am really excited to become an aupair and I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

Yours sincerely,

lg

Stimmt so werd ichs dann wohl machen :grinning:
Danke nochmal!
