Host family letter / Brief an die zukünftige Gastfamilie

Hey,
ich weiß dass es schon sehr viele Briefe dieser Art gab, ich wäre aber trotzdem sehr dankbar über Verbesserungsvorschläge und eine kurze Rückmeldung

Dear Host family,

first of all, I would like to thank you very much for reading my letter.
I am very pleased that I am allowed to stay nine months with you. Now I want to tell you something about myself, my family and my friends and why I would like to spend nine months in New Zealand. So we can see whether we have the same interests.

I’m Finn XXXX and I’m 15 years old and I become 16 on February Xth. I’m living together with my parents XXX & XXX, my 13 years old sister XXX and my 10 years old little sister XXX in XXXXX. It’s a town with 38.000 habitants in south-west Germany and that’s also the town where I go to school.

I’m in a big school with about 1000 students. Normal I’ve to get up at 6.30 and I’m in school till 1’o clock pm but on two days till 3.35 pm. The school is only a half Mile away, so I walk to school or go by bike.
I’m very good in school and I like to learn with my friends. I get along very well with my teachers and classmates and some of my best friends are in my school too.
My favourite subjects are natural sciences like chemistry, physic and biology because I’m really interested in technology and I like to know as much as possible about the world around me. English is one of my favourite subjects too but I’m versatile interested, so I like history and politic too and I like sports. I’ll tell you more about my favourite activities below.

But now I want to introduce myself
My friends describe me as a friendly, open-minded, sportive and creative person. I often meet friends and I like to be in a group and do something with them so we often go to cinema, go to the big swimming pool of our town, do sports together or play Video Games but I can do something for my own too. I love nature and adventure and exploring something so I like outdoor sports and activities like archery, biking, fishing, skate or longboarding, swimming or athletics and in winter I love skiing very much but I like to play team sports like football too and I like to jump trampoline, so I’m in the shooting club and in the trampoline Club.

I told you yet, that I live together with my Parents and my two sisters, now I want to tell you more about my family. The most time I get along very well with my sisters, just sometimes I have a little arguement with XXX but I think it’s normal. I have a really good relationship to my parents. My father works a lot, he’s …
I like to go fishing with him. My mother also has a lot of work to do, she’s … I try to help her whenever I can at home. My parents are very buzzy but they support me always when ever I need help. Sometimes we make trips together but unfortunately we haven’t much time during the weeks. I like travelling very much and mostly in summer and spring holidays we travel with our caravan to sea or in the mountains. Helping in the kitchen and with the laundry and tidying up my room are things I always had to do. Both of my parents raised me to be a creative, loving, honest and responsible person with an own opinion.
In my spare time at home I like to read an interesting book, hear music (I like Pop and almost everything from the charts), watch movies or do something on Computer.

My Grandparents live very rural about 20 kilometres from XXX and I like to spend time with them too.

Probably you will ask yourself why I want to be an exchange student. I’ll tell you about. I think it’s a great opportunity to meet new people, getting to know the New Zealand cultures, improve my English skills, make new experiences and I think I can only stand to gain from a year abroad. I always want to live near the sea because I love the sea and the activities which you can do there so much. When we travel in holidays to sea, sometimes we make canu trips or rent a boat and go fishing. In 2015, I took part in a two weeks French exchange which was offered from my school but I think two weeks are much too short to getting in a new culture and a new family and make new friends. I am so excited about the stay and I hope I‘ll be able to show you something about the German way of life.

Now I hope you have got a good first impression of my life.
I would like to wish you a great day and thank you for taking the time to get know me and my life a bit better. I am looking forward to hearing from you and even more to be a part of your family.
Yours,
Finn
