host family letter?

Dear host family,

first I want to say a huge thank you for giving an exchange student the opportunity to study abroad and live at your house for a year. That really means a lot.

My name is Ana and I’m 15 years old. I was born in Germany in a family that offers two cultures, as my father was German and my mother is Spanish. I’m living with my mother and my older sister, since my father sadly passed away last year, after to 2 years of cancer, but that only got us closer together as a family.

The things that are most important to me are my friends, my family, my drawings and music. I’ve been told that I’m very good at art and being creative is really dear to my heart. I spend most of my time drawing or writing and I’m really passionate about it. Music is also a really important part of my life. I listen to all kinds of music from pop to indie to rock. My favorite band, for example is Twenty One Pilots, because their lyrics make me think about life and since I’m a big philosophy fan, I can’t complain about that (Philosophy is also one of my favorite subjects in school). Because I’m so passionate about music, one of my favorite hobbies is going to concerts. I’ve been to four concerts from popular bands like One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer. I still have two concerts to go until August. Sports aren’t really a thing for me though, but I’m trying to get better at it. I used to play basketball, but I’ve quit since I didn’t have any time for it.

I see myself as a good student. Although I’m not that good in Math, I still get good grades in subjects like English and German, since I really like literature and languages. With Philosophy, those are my favorite subjects. Philosophy is one of my strengths, because, like I said before, I really like to think about life and society in general and that’s what we talk about in Philosophy. It’s interesting to see other people’s point of views on subjects like society, religion, friendship and so on.

One of my biggest strengths is that I’m very tolerant and open-minded. I’m very interested in what is going on in the world and I’m really interested in politics and society. I always try to be a good person, to be kind to everyone and to treat everyone with respect. My weakness is that I’m a bit messy, but it’s nothing severe, don’t worry.

My friends and family would describe me as really passionate, honest and kind. I’ve also been told that I’m a lot of fun to be with. The people I’m around also see me as a bit of a stubborn person, which is another weakness of mine. What sticks out is that I’m a really happy, optimistic person and that I laugh a lot, yet I’m very thoughtful.

The idea of doing an exchange year in the USA amazed me so much, because I admire the culture and what I heard of it and I really want to experience the culture and the country by firsthand. I’d also love to experience high school and the American school system. Overall I want to experience America.

I can bring both of my cultures to you and show you what my cultures are like (for example native food and traditions).

Also ich finde deinen Brief echt gut!
