Host family letter

Hallo liebe Community! :grinning:

Danke, eure Kathi

Dear Host Family,

First of all I want to thank you for taking me as a guest in your family and giving me an insight in your culture. I am really looking forward to this exchange and hope it will be a great time for both you and me.

My name is Katharina **** (but most people simply call me Kathi) and I was born on **** in **** in Austria. I live in ****, which is a beautiful village with about 2000 inhabitants. It is located 20 kilometres far from the city of ****, which is the capital of the federal state of **** and has nearly 300 000 inhabitants.

I am living together with my parents and my younger brother. My father is a engineer in automotive development and my mother works as an assistant for transport and logistics services. ****, my eleven-year-old brother, attends a secondary school in Heiligenkreuz. We live with two rabbits called Cookie and Bonito and a turtle called Schildi. My family is really amazing, although there are some arguments sometimes.

I attend a secondary school with an economic focus called “****” in ****. It takes me about 40 minutes to get there by bus and tram. In school, my favourite subjects are English, Spanish, project management, geography and music. I am a very dedicated student and almost always have good marks.

At the weekend I often volunteer in a children’s group for kids from the age of 6 to 14, which belongs to the church. There we play games, sing songs, talk or do arts and crafts with the kids. We often organize events for the children or for charity, like carnival celebration or carolling. I really enjoy doing this because I really love working with children and seeing them smile. Moreover, I joined the local youth group, which often organizes events too. To earn a little extra money, I tutor kids in English at school.

I spend much time with my friends, especially with my best friend ****, who is in my class at school. Together we do many different things and talk, have fun, laugh or even cry. This year, in our class is also an exchange student from France, who has become a good friend of us and is one of the reasons why I want to do this exchange.

A really important part of my life is music. I take guitar lessons once a week and play the piano. Singing is a passion of me, too, and I even write own songs. I enjoy listening to almost all kinds of music – may it be pop, rock, latin or classical music.

One of my other favourite free time activities is sports, although I’m not a very athletic person. I really love dancing. I go to hip-hop training with my group every Thursday and have participated in ballroom dance courses too. I like swimming, skiing and riding the unicycle as well.
Other hobbies of me are reading, taking photos and writing.

To say a little bit about me: People who don’t know me well may see me as a rather shy person, but when I get to know someone better I can be very talkative and energetic. My friends describe me as ambitious, cheerful and creative.

I travel with my family a lot, mostly in summer, where we go camping with our caravan. I enjoy it a lot, although we have to manage with little space. We’ve been to many countries in Europe, for example France, Italy, Croatia or Montenegro. In April 2013 I went on a language trip to Ireland with my school class for two weeks and I really came to love this country. It was the first time I stayed with a host family, which I enjoyed a lot.

I’m looking forward to getting to know a new country and its people, culture and manners. Furthermore, I hope to be included in your family’s daily life and find out the commonalities and differences between our countries. In addition, I’m not choosy with food and keen to try various kinds of traditional food. Although I know this trip won’t be easy, I will do my best to solve problems and overcome challenges. I am eager to learn a lot of new things and I hope I can make the most of my stay with you!

Yours,
Katharina

Ich denke es ist ‚20 kilometres away from…‘. Außerdem glaube ich nicht das es für deine zukünftige Gastfamilie wichtig ist was die Hauptstadt vom Bundesland ist.

Sonst finde ich deinen Text richtig gut. :grinning:
