Dear Host Family,
First of all I want to thank you for welcoming me in your family for one year and giving me the chance to know how a Japanese Family lives. I am looking forward to experience your country.
I would like to tell you something about me to get you know me a little better. My name is Melanie and I am 15 years old. When I will come to Japan I will be 16 years old. I am 171 centimeters tall.
I live in a small city called Marl. My father is 45 years old and his profession is policemen. My mother is 42 years old and works as an office employee in a center of (for) physiotherapy. NAME, my younger sister, is 13 years old and we are more like friends than like sisters.
The relationship with my parents and my sister is very good. We speak about everything and we often watch movies together or we make daytrips to cities in the nearer environment.
My grandparents are living in the neighbourhood so at the weekend we sometimes meet them. I also have a good relationship with them.
With some of my friends I have been visited the same class since the elementary school. Now we are still together in one class at a college preparatory school. My friends are very important to me, and we often do things together at the weekend or after school. We share the same hobbies. For example we are playing volleyball in the same team.
I also enjoy playing badminton, listening to music, reading books and surfing the Internet.
At the weekend I am learning Japanese since 3 month already. I enjoy it very much because it gives a lot of fun and is interesting. After the lessons I normally meet friends. On Sundays I sometimes see my grandparents, spend time with my family or learn for the next school week.
I am visiting the 10th grade of college preparatory school and unfortunately there is no subject of Japanese at school so I am taking lessons by a former exchange student, who lived in Japan for one year. I am surprised that he learned the basics of the Japanese language in such a short time. I am interested in languages and the culture of different countries. I like French and English the most but Russian and geography is also very interesting. Sport is very important to me in my free time so I also enjoy it at school.
My friends say that I am independent, purposeful, adaptable, friendly, curious and humorous.
The reason why I want to be an exchange student is that I want to gain a lot of new experiences, meet interesting people, learn more about the Japanese culture and way of life, and of course to improve my Japanese.
