Dear host family,
first of all I’m very glad that you are interested in my person and maybe give me the opportunity to spend a year with you in America. You don’t know me yet, so I would like to tell you something about me and my reasons for going one year abroad.
My name is Lisa and I´m sixteen years old. My friends call me Liz.
I live with my mother XXX (41) in an apartment in the area of Munich, the very famous Bavarian capital in the south of Germany. Munich is also called “Weltstadt mit Herz” (that means “cosmopolitan city with heart”). I can´t imagine to live in another city in Germany because I feel good here. There´s a really good relation between my mother and me, we do often things together like going to the center of Munich, making some trips, travelling together, or meeting friends and relatives. I help her in household as well, sometimes I cook or buy some food, and I also take care for my pet, a rabbit, which is seven years old.
My father XXX (46) lives in my town, too. At the weekend we do things together like cooking, going on trips, etc. We also get along very well.
There´s a pretty good relation between my whole family, we often see us on the weekend when my grandma cooks for us or when we celebrate somebody´s birthday. They all support me in my intention to go to the USA.
Now I want to tell you something about my personality and my hobbies.
When you will see me for the first time, your impression will be that I´m a little bit shy. But it´s only like that for the first 10 or 15 minutes =). Later you will see that I´m really open-minded, friendly, helpful and responsible, I also like the challenge to do something new.
I spend a lot of my free time with my friends, e.g. we go outside, swimming or to the cinema.
I enjoy reading, going out by bike, jogging, doing water sports and I like music. I take piano lessons for six years and I was member of a band in my town. Unfortunately this year my band was closed, because nobody had any more time. But I´ve heard that there are often bands in American high schools, so maybe I could go there when I´m here. Additionally I take part in the choir of my school and we give two concerts every year. I´m member of a youth group in my church as well, we meet us every Wednesday to do some activities.
The weekends are the days where I have the most time, because when I have school, there isn´t enough time for all hobbies and interests. So in the weekends I usually meet friends or relatives or do some sports. In the summer my friends and I often go to the lake, we go for a ride by bike or we sometimes do waterskiing or any other water sports.
I´m in the 10th grade of the XXX Gymnasium, a grammar school in my town. My favorite subjects are languages, especially English and Spanish. I think languages are the most important subjects because it´s interesting and really useful for communicating with people from other countries. I also take part in the choir of my school, but I mentioned that already in my hobbies. Normally I come home from school at one or three o´clock, then I do my homework and afterwards sometimes there are some small activities like youth group, piano lesson, etc.
When I´m back from USA, I want to finish my last two years at school and then I want to study at the university. I don´t know what exactly I want to study, but maybe I want to do something with a foreign language.
I made the decision to go to the US because I want to get to know the real American Way of life. I´ve never been to America before. I want to be part of my host family and I want to know all about the American culture.
Also I want to feel the school spirit and meet many new people. I hope that I make friends with many of them. Furthermore I want to collect many great experiences. It will be great for my personality and for my language skills.
I would be thankful if I become a member of your family because that exchange is my biggest dream and now it could become true.
