Dear host family!

First of all I would like to thank you for welcoming me in your family for almost one year and giving me the chance of getting to know how an Argentine families life. I chose Argentine as my exchange country because I am very interested in the culture and the way of life there. I also hope to get to know a new school system and to learn Spanish, a fascinating language. To get to know me a little bit better I will now tell you some things about me, my family, my school and my hobbies.

My name is Lorena XXX, my birthday is on the 26th of February 1993, I am 1,72 m tall and I live in a little village called Nußdorf near Landau. It is in the southwest of Germany. Germany has 16 federal states and I live in Rhineland-Palatinate. Since my birth I live here together with my parents Rainer and Christiane in a little house with a small garden in the back. When I was little we had a dog named Pancho. My uncle Achim brought him from Mexico where he lieved for 4 years. But that was before is was born.
My mother Christiane is 48 years old and works as a bank clerk. But only the half day so that she can be at home when I come back from school. My father Rainer is 51 years old and he works as a technical advisor at Mercedes-Benz. He works very hard there. Often he goes out for work before 7 o´clock in the morning and comes home at 5 o´clock in the evening.
As I have no sisters or brothers I have a room for myself but it is not very big. Here I have my bed and my wardrobe. Here I also have my books and games and my own PC.
My Grandparents also live in Nußdorf and I often visit them. My Grandmother likes to cook for me so she often invites me to come for having my lunch there after school.

Nußdorf is one of the many wine-growing villages in the Palatine. We have over 15 wineculturists in the village. In every autumn I held my Grandparents
With the vintage in their little wineyard. It is often fun because we do it with our hands and so the whole family and friends help and we tell us jokes and stories so we have to laugh very much. Nußdorf is also a very historical village. In 2004 we celebrated 1200 years Nußdorf with big ceremonies and a big process throug the village with many hundrets of visitors. Here we also have a historical farm house from the 14th century. There started the Peasants´ Wars in 1555. In this there is a little museum about the Peasants´ Wars.

I am a very reliable person what all of my friends like on me. They know that they can come to me and tell me their problems because I do not tell them others and I always try to help them. But I am also very funny and open-minded. I like long conversations about very different things, e.g. religions, other countries and so on.

At the moment I am in 10th grade of Mary-Ward-School in Landau, a secondary school only for girls. Here the lessons start five minutes before 8 o´clock and ends at 1 o´clock in the noon. In the morning we have two brakes. After two hours one of 15 minutes and than again two hours later one of 10 minutes. My favorite subjects are English, German and Chemistry. But I am not very good in maths for that reason I get tutoring by a elder girl from my school. Nobody is perfect!

As I have to work a bit harder for school than other students I only meet my friends in the morning at school and on the weekends. Then we go shopping or to the cinema and in summer to the swimming pool. On holidays I often try to meet my best friend Andreas because we cannot meet so often because he lives 1 ½ hours by car away from me. I know him since nearly 5 years and I often speak to him about internet. To me he is like a brother and when I have problems I can come to him and he tries to give me advice.

Every Thursday I go to the dancing school “Wienholt” in Landau. Here I have a dancing partner named Carsten. As I am already in the gold class of dancing school I have found many friends there and together we always have a lot of fun. On the end-of-course dance that is every 3 months for the new pupils we dance in front of them “Salsa Rueda” which is very much fun. On weekends there are often dancing parties and I like dancing there to modern music and chat to other people.
On Friday evening I usually go horse riding since I am 9 or 10 years old. I really enjoy to be in harmony with animals that are so big and gentle as horses. Since those days I started horse riding I went for riding-holidays every year. Since 2 years I go to the Black Forest for riding-holidays… I always find new friends very quick – also little children. With many of them I am still in contact and every holiday many of them ask me whether I will be there again together with them.
In winter I travel with my parents and friends of us to South Tyrol in Italy for skiing. We go there since I am 2 years old and so I can say that I have found there a second home. I like beeing there because I like how friendly people are there. And I also like the big mountains and old farms. There you can chill out completely and forget that you are in a modern world. But there are also modern cities where you can buy the recent Italian fashion.
In my holidays and my free time I also read very much. My mother always says “It is like she would eat them.”, because I read very quick when a book is interesting. I read very different kinds of novels. For example Harry Potter but also historcal or mystery novels. In my room I have over 100 books. So that I do not have to buy so many new books I have an library pass. This is very practical and cheaper than always buying new books.

The reason why I want to spend a year in Argentine is that I want to get more independent, improve my Spanish, meet new people, get to know how an Argentine family lives and be a member of that family. For that reason I am willing to help in the household and to mind for little sisters or brothers if I have. But I certainly want to get to know how it is to be on a Argentine school because I think German and Argentine school systems are very different. I am also willing to tell you some more interesting things about Germany, e.g. I would like to cook something typical for you.

I am looking forward to meet you and will do my best to become my year in Argetine good for me and you.

Greetings from Germany.

Lorena
