"Dear Host Family"-letter. Correction, please! IMPORTANT!!

Hi everyone.
I want to do an exchange year that’s why I wrote this letter.
Pleaser correct this. I need this till Monday… HELP ME  It is very imprtant for me.
Do you like this letter? Or any ideas?

Dear host family,

first of all I want to thank you for reading my letter and giving me the opportunity to live in the USA for one year. To make the decision easier for you, I would like to give you a little impression about who I am.
My name is XXX and I was born on 2nd January 19XX in XXXX. When I was 1 year old my partens moved with me to Germany. Today I live in XXX (in the near of the XXXsea), a town with circa 28,000 inhabitant. Since I am 4 years old I live only together with my mother and my cat, I have no brothers or sisters and my father lives without us. But I can always see him if I want (or „I could see him everytime I want“ ?). At home we speak German and a little bit Russian. I prefer to speak in German because I can not speak Russian very well and in school or with friends I speak only in German. My mother works as a sales assistant at (or „in“ ?) a supermarket. Our relationship is very good. If I have a problem I can everytime talk with her. I also love my friends. We can always have fun together and I can talk to them about everything. We go in the cinema, a cafe or just hang out. They are one reason why l like going to school because even in subjects which I do not like, we can help each other, so I always liked going to school. My school is called „XXX“ and it is not far away from my home. At the moment I am going into the 9th grade. My favourite subjects are English, German, math and art. My grades usually Bs.
After school I go at home, I often eat alone (because my mother works) and do afterwards my homework. Then I meet some friends, do a hobby like go to the basketball training or enjoy the day with my family. At the weekends I often spend the night with friends. We make a over sleep (or „sleep over“ ? ). Then we play a game, watch a DVD, cook or do something like that. I also love to do something with the whole family. As hobby, I like to play basketball even if I am only 5.22 feet tall and unfortunately I do not have time to play it very often. So I would like to do it in the USA but I am also open for other activities. I can not play any instrument but I love music. Especially songs in English, they sound better. I read a lot because it is great to dive into a „other World“ and I can relax.
In whole I think I am a very tolarant, helpful, friendly and cooperative person who like (or „likes“ ?) to have fun. I would not say of myself that I am shy and if I am, then just in the beginning. I never was in the USA before but I always wanted to spend some time there. Since I am 12 years old I dreamt to do an exchange year in the USA - to learn a new culture, make new experiences, learn better English and your school-system. I want to get to know the real „American Way of Live“ not just as a visitor and meet a lot of different people. I think to experience your Halloween, Thanksgiving and an American Christmas would be very exciting, too. Besides I want to get more independent, outgoing and self-confident.
I would aprreciate it so much if you would let me be a part of your family. I know it is not an easy thing to do, letting somebody you do not know into your live but I would be thankful for such a chance.
Hope to see you soon.
Yours, XXX.

…Aalso,

-„(in the near of the XXXsea)“->nur „near the …“
-„Since I am 4 years old I live…“ → Since I was years old I´ve been living/ I´ve lived
-„I have no brothers or sisters“ → I do not have any siblings"
-„my father lives without us“->My father does not live with us
-„But I can always see him if I want“ → „But I can always see him when I want to“

  1. „(in the near of the XXXsea)“->nur „near the …“ - Stimmt, danke! :slight_smile:
  2. „Since I am 4 years old I live…“ → Since I was years old I´ve been living/ I´ve lived
  3. „I have no brothers or sisters“ → I do not have any siblings" - Eine Möglichkeit, danke
  4. „my father lives without us“->My father does not live with us - Mein Satz ist in diesem Fall doch auch richtig, oder?
  5. „But I can always see him if I want“ → „But I can always see him when I want to“ - und wie sieht’s aus mit „I could see him everytime I want“?

Und nochmals einfach danke :)!

stimmt. danke!

  1. „I prefer to speak in German because I can not speak Russian very well and in school or with friends I speak only in German“ → I prefer speaking (to speak ist aber auch okay) German because I do not speak Russian very well and at school and with my friends I also only speak German.

  1. „at (or „in“ ?) a supermarket“ → Ich würde at sagen, aber ich bin auch unsicher…

  2. „I can everytime talk with her“ → I can always talk to her

  3. „We can always have fun together and I can talk to them about everything“ → Irgendwie ein bisschen holprig… vielleicht besser etwas wie „Together, we always have fun and we are able to speak very frankly/openly (with each other)“

6)„We go in the cinema, a cafe or just hang out“ → We go to the cinema, a cafe or we just hang up

7)„so I always liked going to school“ → Weil´s ein bisschen komisch klingt, würde ich den Teil einfach rauslassen, das hast du in dem Satz ja schon verdeutlicht

8)„I am going into the 9th grade“ → Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob man das sagen kann… vielleicht eher „I visit 9th grade“

9)„My grades usually Bs“ → My grades are usually Bs

  1. „After school I go at home, I often eat alone (because my mother works) and do afterwards my homework“ → After school I go home and eat alone because my mother has to work. Then I do my homework."

  2. „like go to the basketball training“ → like going to…

  3. "or enjoy " → or I enjoy (Im Englischen würde ich bei sowas aufpassen, die lassen das nur selten weg, auch wenn mans im Deutschen immer macht)

  4. „We make a over sleep (or „sleep over“ ? )“ → sleep over, aber wird das mit make gebildet?!

  5. „I like to play“ → besser: I like playing, geht aber beides.

  6. „into a „other World““-> into „another world“

  7. „In whole“ → Was willst du damit sagen? Insgesamt oder alles in allem heißt „all in all“ und abschließend bedeutet „In conclusion“

  8. „who like (or „likes“ ?) to have fun“ → Who likes having fun (besser als to have)

  9. „I never was in the USA before“ → I´ve never been in the USA

  10. „I dreamt to do an exchange year“ → I´ve been dreaming of doing an exchange year

  11. „learn a new culture“ → learn something about another culture

  12. „and your school-system“ → and get to know your school system

  13. „and meet a lot of different people“ → Wieder die Sache mit dem Auslassen, " and I would like to meet…"

  14. „I think to experience your Halloween, Thanksgiving and an American Christmas“ → experiencing the American Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas
