Dear family,

I thought a lot about how to begin this letter. The first sentence should make the rest interesting and shouldn’t sound like all the others. You see, I know in which way I should start but it’s still not easy to find the right words. Anyway I thank you that you read it at all!
Before I start to tell you something about me, I want to say that I find it great that you accommodate an exchange student. I think it’s really interesting to get to know how a family from another country or even another continent live.
I like to get to know other cultures. I’m open-minded, friendly, funny and apertured. So I accommodate a France student for one week during the schooldays because I thought this would be good requirements to have an exchange student. It was very exciting and we had a lot of fun what I have never expected. Furthermore I spend my last summer holiday in Brighton, England. There I lived in a host family. When I was in town I thought: “Wow, it’s really big here!” And apart from that it was my first time to drive with a red double-decker bus.  But the continent I gladly like to visit is America, especially the USA!! Since I was 7, I wanted to go to the United States. And now my dream maybe becomes true.
Okay, and now something about myself.
My name is Annie. I am 15 and live in Potsdam, Germany. There I go to a secondary school. The school is an Europe school and consists of two buildings – the main -and outbuilding. The teachers are really nice and friendly. Of course there are some who I like and some who I don’t like very much. It’s similar to the subjects – some I like, for example English, Math and Sports, and some which I dislike. After school I attend a Chinese and a Latin course. I love learning foreign languages because it’s really great to know some others and it sounds awesome. I also think that it is interesting how languages developed. I’m ambitious and want to learn as much as possible. I was always a good student, so I see this exchange as an additional chance to learn more. School is very important for me because there are most of my friends. In class I get along well with my classmates. Of course there are a few students who I don’t like very much but I really try to be friendly to them. With my friends I often undertake something – go to a café, go shopping, hear music together, go to concerts, doing sports. Other hobbies from me are doing karate (in a club), playing volleyball and drawing. I also like music. It’s a big part of my life and I’m listening to music most of the time. But don’t be afraid: I’m not a freak who’s terrorizing you with loud rock music all day long. I like making music, too. I play piano for 7 years now and I really like doing it. In my off time I sometimes write coverage or short reports for the student magazine. My dream job is in the field of journalism. May be I would like to work as a television presenter. To gain insight this large field, I did an internship for 2 weeks and I haven’t repented it. Far from it! I have loved it.
My parents aid me to attain my ambition. (Zur Zeit) they live apart because my father has to work in the north. So my mother and I live together with my little brother Van in Potsdam. Van is 8 years old and he plays the piano and does karate, too. He also plays chess. He’s really good in it. If I would play against him I would lost.

Thanks for your attantion and I hope that my letter hasn’t got so many mistakes.

Love,
Annie.
