Dear host family,

First of all I would like to tell you how pleased I am that you’ve decided to host me in your family for such a long time.
I cannot wait to meet you, get to know you and share experiences with you.
I decided to do one year abroad in the USA because I want to get to know the American way of life.
The difference between school, family and the culture in Germany. It should be a big difference and I would like to experience it firsthand.
It has always been my dream to go to an American high school and live in an American family.
With this letter I would like to introduce myself to you so you can get to know me a little bit already.

My name is Theresa I’m 14 years old and my birthday is January 25th 1996 in Miltenberg,
a town with 10.000 inhabitants.
My parents get divorced last year and now I life with my mom, her boyfriend, my 12 years old sister and my three month old brother in a house in Bürgstadt, near Miltenberg.
I have often to look after my little brother so I can handle good with little children in general with children. And when I haven’t to look after the little boy I help my mom to keep the house clean or I cook for all the family because of this my mom sais often I’m very mature.
My dad lives also in Bürgstadt in an apartment where I visit him every second weekend or when my mom and I spared us. He’s a wonderful dad, he stands behind me every time when I need him and he cares so lovely about me and my sister. Our relation is very good and I can tell him everything although I just see him rarely.
Cultures especially the American one. The greatest travel was 2008 with my dad to the USA.I was so keen on flying to the United States because it was always my dream. We stayed there for 4 weeks in hotels or by a colleague of my dad in Raleigh .We’ve visited New York, Washington and Asheville but 4 weeks are far too short to get to see all the great places of the USA.
I’m a very outgoing person. I love to travel around the world and meet new friends and new I can’t wait to live in an American family, go to an American high school and meet lots of American people for longer than just 4 weeks.
When schools out I meet my friends or I pursue my hobbies and play handball or tennis.
My handballs school team and me, we were the 8th best school team in Germany and the best in Bayern.
My friends describe me as a funny, friendly and cooperative person with whom they can do things they maybe wouldn’t do with other people. My friends can trust me and talk about problems without having a stupid feeling. They matter a very important role in my life because I can have fun and exchange opinions and experiences with them.
My school is very great. Companionship is in our school very important. We have every year another issue by which the companionship should be invigorated. I’m not very good in maths, physic and chemise. My favourite subjects are French, English, Sports and music. I haven’t any problems with my classmates and come along with almost everyone in my class.
But our school isn’t as big as an American high school. It has just 500 students which is still very nice.
I hope you could get to know me a little bit. I bet we will enjoy our time. I am looking forward to meet my new family.

Warm regards
Theresa
