Dear Host Family,
First of all, thank you for reading my letter and spending time on getting to know me better.
I am very pleased that I am allowed to stay one year with you.
My name is Theresa, but most people call me by my nickname Thessi.
I am 14 years old but I will be 16, when I arrive in the USA.
I am born on the 17th of June 1999 in the little town called Grossenhain.
Grossenhain that’s also the town were I go to school.
I am living in a small village near Grossenhain.
My school is not big, with 400 students, but I like my school, because the teachers are kind and friendly,my class is wonderful, everybody is tolerant and helpful.
Of course there are a few kids who I don’t like very much but I really try to be friendly to them.
I like to learn new things in school, too, specially in subjects like History, Math and Politics.
In my school, I am the Head Girl.
In my future I want to work in a kindergarten or in a school.
Besides there are activities after school, for example , Monday and Thursday I do judo, I love judo it is my favorite hobby.
Wednesday I play volleyball and on the weekends I am a soccer referee.
I love sport and I hope you too, I am looking forward to play volleyball with you guys!
If I have time for myself, I like reading books. The shelf in my room is full of books and I like just sitting in the coach, having tea and read one of them
Now I want to tell you something about my family: I live with my parents, my grandma and my dog in a small village called Goerzig.
I also have a sister, but she is studying biology far away.
My dog is like a little sister for me, her name is Kira and she is 5 years old.
My relationship to my parents is good.
It is important for me that I can talk with my family about everything and that they can tell me everything, too.
My mother works a lot: she works from 6 am most times till the evening. She is a surgical assistant.
But if I need her help she support me everytime.
I love cooking with her, maybe I could cook with you some american or german meals. I am very pleased if somebody says that the meal I cooked was good.
My father has got just a little job so he is often at home and I can spend much time with him. If I have problems, he helps me everytime.
We often play soccer and go for a hike.
Also the relationship to my sister is good. We get along well with each other and have much fun together when she visit us.
On special events like someones birthday, Chrismas or Easter the full family meets together. That is always very funny! I find it great that my family hold together and I think that is very important for a family.
I really enjoy meeting my friends. I have some very good friends and I can do all with them. In summertime we often go cycling and relax in the sun. My friends would describe me as a helpful, confident, funny, tolerant, open and a little bit crazy person.
I think the exchange year will prepare me for my future life and will really help me. It will give me experiences and it’s a chance I will never get again.
The main reason for wanting to be an exchange student is that I’m interested in the American way of life.
I would like to develop in America.
I hope to find new friends and get a really nice host family.
But of course I want to improve my english.
I have no experience with exchanges, but I hope it´s going to be an good first experience in America.
Now I hope you have got a good first impression of my life.
I really thank you for reading this letter!
Lots of Love
Theresa
